Ilfracombe
is a romantic setting for a quiet and peaceful seaside holiday Victorian
Ilfracombe surrounds a romantic ancient harbour from where (quite
possibly) King Alfred
once repelled the Vikings (and so was called 'Great') - Ilfracombe (Alfreincoma)
means 'Alfred's valley leading to the sea'. |

Key
places to visit during your holiday are the harbour, with 14th century
Quay and Chapel, the Victorian High Street, Fore Street (Alfred's original
way to the sea) and the Sea-Front - which is dominated by the new Landmark
Theatre, a premier entertainments venue. Nearby is the fascinating
Ilfracombe Museum - well worth a visit. There
is a spectacular walk to Ilfracombe through Hillsborough Nature Reserve -
see if you can find secluded Rapparee beach on the way. |
